TAIL WAGGERS UNITE NEXT WEEK IN GALWAY TO RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR A DOG RESCUE  IN CONNEMARA.

Sharon Shannon, No Banjo, The Brennan Sisters, Seamus Begley, Donagh Hennessy and Guests will provide the music for a fabulous foot stomping night in the Roisin Dubh on Monday the 29th June. All proceeds raised on the night are going towards MADRA ( Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue & Adoption) M.A.D.R.A  is a dog rescue charity based in Connemara Kennels right in the heart of the Gaeltacht and is run completely by volunteers. They believe that no dog should be put to sleep purely because of being a surplus number and they work hard to rescue dogs effectively on death row in local authority pounds in Galway and Mayo.

Once in the kennels all the dogs are assessed, vaccinated, de-flead, wormed, neutered, micro-chipped and only then are they ready to find a new home with a loving family. MADRA also provides a full training session for the whole family to help the newest member settle in with the minimum fuss and provide a constant back up service should any problems arise.

There is a huge variety of unwanted dogs at the moment with several pure breeds and puppies homeless due to no fault of their own. In fact, last year, of the 396 dogs MADRA rescued ( that’s more than a dog a day) almost 50% were pure breeds and several were small toy dogs. It seems the recession hits the Labrador and cute Poodle equally hard but thankfully MADRA and many other rescues are able to help them out and improve their outlook for the future.

As the cost of each new arrival costs MADRA almost 140 Euro it’s hugely important to raise funds if they are to continue.

Sharon is a well known dog lover and she and her friends are giving their time completely  free of charge. Roisin Dubh are very kindly covering all other expenses so all the money raised on Monday will go directly to the rescue and straight to the welfare of the dogs. At present there are 36 dogs in the kennels and that’s a lot of dog nuts!! Come on down and bring your friends to support this good cause. Frisbees/tennis balls optional!
